A month ago, the popular Tallinn cocktail bar Sigmund Freud won the open competition of the prestigious Barproof Awards for the best cocktail menu. Sigmund Freud opened last summer and quickly gained fans among both locals and foreigners. This is due to the amazing cocktails and unusual concept of the establishment. It is no coincidence that the bar is named after the founder of psychoanalysis, Sigmund Freud - it has the longest bar counter in Tallinn, created so that people could communicate with bartenders, and they, in turn, conduct a kind of psychoanalysis and select the client exactly the cocktail that he needs I'll like it.
Everything here reminds of Sigmund Freud: portraits of a psychoanalyst, an unambiguous picture of mussels, as well as the names of cocktails, which everyone interprets to the extent of their depravity. GLOSS visited Sigmund Freud and selected several cocktails with the most interesting presentation.
HONEYPOTTING
Let's start with, perhaps, the most “Instagramogenic” cocktail in the form of a pot of flowers. The name of the drink consists of two words: honey(“honey”) and pot("pot"). An innocent name, it would seem. However, in slang the verb honeypotting also means achieving a goal through one's sexuality. What Sigmund Freud actually means by naming the cocktail this way remains a mystery.
The drink is very “alcoholic”: vodka with salted caramel, Frangelico, Kahlua and Bayley’s liqueurs are shaken with mascarpone cheese, covered with crushed cookies and served in the form of a pot of flowers.
Price: 8 euros
BOOZY SUZIE
The name translates as “drunk Susie” (one of the cocktail ingredients is the classic French vermouth Suze Saveur). This is a girl of free morals, looking for adventures with sailors on the pier - this is reminiscent of the small wooden dock, on which the cocktail itself is served in a simple “peasant” mug.
The drink is based on vodka, which is mixed with Suze Saveur and Bianco vermouths, Peychaud’s bitters, grapefruit juice, sugar syrup and beaten egg white. The cocktail is garnished with eggshells and olives - a classic appetizer for vermouth.
Price: 8 euros
BOOBS & CLOONEY
Women love George Clooney and men love boobs. Popcorn as decoration symbolizes film culture. We all love watching movies, but sometimes it doesn’t end with just one movie, especially when there’s a cute girlfriend or boyfriend nearby.
Boobs & Clooney is a twist on the classic Whiskey Sour cocktail. Bourbon is mixed with Amaretto, lemon syrup and egg white. The drink is served with popcorn and an American style straw.
Price: 8 euros
THE SIN OF MISSIONARY
The title translates as “the missionary’s sin.” What to hide? Fornication was held in high esteem by the missionaries. The cocktail is served in a wonderful glass in the shape of Sigmund Freud, who is holding a cigar in his hand (although many visitors doubt this).
The drink contains rum, which Sigmund Freud infuses itself, as well as aged Cuban rum, apricot brandy, lemon juice, homemade honey syrup, a little prosecco and fresh mint. The cocktail is often offered as an alternative to Mojito.
Price: 9 euros
MEZCAL MARGARITA
It's a twist on mezcal, a strong alcoholic drink made by distilling fermented agave juice. It differs from tequila in that the latter is made only from blue agave with added sugar, while mezcal is made from pure agave juice of five varieties. It has a slightly smoky taste - hence the interesting presentation with burning wood chips on a special wooden board, which are covered with a coconut shell, the whole thing smokes under it, and then a cocktail is poured into the shell from a small bottle.
As a result, the drink acquires different flavor shades: notes of coconut, a light smoky flavor combined with the original “smokiness” of mezcal. In addition to mezcal, the cocktail includes natural grapefruit and lime juices, which the Sigmund Freud team squeezes themselves, as well as elderflower syrup.
Price: 8 euros
BLOODY MELLY
The cocktail is named after bar employee Mally and is a twist on the classic Bloody Mary. Snack and drink style drink - served with olives, bacon and taco chips. The main ingredient is vodka infused by Sigmund Freud with horseradish. The taste is different every time depending on who stirs the cocktail. Some people like to add more barbecue sauce, others like to add more pepper.
In addition to vodka and barbecue sauce, the cocktail also includes lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, Tabasco, tomato juice and spices.
Price: 8 euros
MAMAN BRIGITTE
Maman Bridget is the wife of Baron Saturday, one of the main Voodoo pantheon. She can resurrect the dead, delay death, and cure some seemingly incurable diseases caused by external influences. Maman Brigitte also loves to drink black rum and indulge in debauchery.
The drink is served in a shell and garnished with an inverted lime, into which either “smoking” dry ice is placed, or absinthe is poured, which is also set on fire.
The cocktail is mixed from pineapple infused rum, peach liqueur, ginger syrup, lime juice, sugar syrup, coconut milk, and lemongrass is also added. It is often offered as an alternative to Pina Colada.
Price: 9 euros
PORNO STAR
The most popular cocktail among bar visitors. Everyone knows that porn stars have a very hard job, after which they usually go to relieve stress with a cocktail, washed down with champagne and “sniffing” with “angel powder”. The drink is served together with sparkling wine, so that, as in sex, you can try several options for pleasure: wash down the cocktail with sparkling wine or add champagne to it.
The drink contains vanilla vodka, passion fruit liqueur, passion fruit puree and sugar syrup. Decorated with marshmallow.
Price: 8 euros
QUEEN OF HEARTS
This cocktail is one of those drinks that Sigmund Freud visitors name themselves. Sometimes, without knowing the original name, clients order what, as they say, is popular among the people. Queen of Hearts is often referred to as "Suck the Bead" due to its confectionery decoration in the form of silver balls.

Several countries, such as France, America, Spain and aristocratic England, argue about the origin of the word “cocktail”. They put forward various versions of its origin and offer their own translation, but the most understandable version for the common man has taken hold in the world - “the tail of the rooster.” Traditionally, it involves a harmonious combination of drinks with certain additives, colorful details in the form of fruit slices, berries and even herbs. For a long time it was associated with alcoholic cocktails, the names of which were and remain their highlight. Each of them also has certain flavor nuances and a unique presentation that distinguishes it from many others.
As people nowadays strive to expand the boundaries of taste and try unusual combinations of foods, new cocktails continue to replenish the stock of similar ones. Any self-respecting bar, restaurant or club always offers a wide selection of these drinks, each of which can either invigorate, or relax, or simply bring pleasure!
Cocktail and alcohol are friends forever
When you mention this word, you immediately think of either a well-known drink made from milk with ice cream, or alcoholic cocktails, the names of which have long been fixed on any bar menu. It is the latter that I would like to pay attention to in this article. Isn’t it interesting to know what this or that mix is, ordered from the bartender and delivering a dose of fun and euphoria? As they say, forewarned is forearmed, so classic alcoholic cocktails will follow in the article, photos with names are attached. And they are considered as such for their unquenchable popularity around the world and, of course, their bright individuality.
They won their Oscar
We are talking about the famous “Mojito”, “Bloody Mary”, “Cosmopolitan”, “Pina Colada” and “Margarita”. Regardless of the characteristics of a particular country and its people, they are drunk, tasted and worshiped on every continent. Considering that they are welcomed all over the world, it would not be amiss to duplicate each name of alcoholic cocktails in English, which the majority of humanity knows. There is no competition among them, so acquaintance with these creations will follow in no particular order. We will not indicate the proportions of the ingredients in them, because a trained bartender knows the recipe of each drink better.
Make way for the ladies - "Margarite" in person
The name of cocktails (alcoholic ones, first of all) often has its own history of origin. "Margarita", for example, contains legends associated with a girl whose name is guessed. It is not surprising that in bars this drink is usually requested by the weaker sex. Because women tend to pay for the taste of a cocktail, while men mainly pay for strength and simplicity.
And the taste of “Margarita” remains in the memory for a long time. It includes (according to the classics of the genre) tequila and lime juice, and the third component can be liqueur: orange, strawberry, watermelon, juice or syrup is also added. The highlight of the Margarita lies in its presentation - in a glass sprinkled with salt.
"Cosmopolitan" - a cocktail for a sultry party
This drink is one of the most commonly ordered aperitifs. "Cosmopolitan" is able to whet the appetite and give energy to the body. It owes its scarlet hue to cranberry juice, into which lime juice is poured. After adding vodka and the excellent Cointreau liqueur, the cocktail becomes very strong.
This fact ensures that a party where Cosmopolitan is served will be a memorable one. It’s better to drink it chilled if you plan to dance and have fun for a long time and actively!
"Bloody Mary" is inexpensive, tasty and simple
Typically, alcoholic cocktails, the names and composition of which are original and at the same time delight with their simplicity, acquire the status of “top”. "Bloody Mary" is definitely one of these. Firstly, such an intriguing name for the drink cannot but arouse curiosity among people who want to drink something original.
Secondly, you have to pay a minimum for a glass of Bloody Mary. As you know, it consists of tomato and lemon juices, to which vodka is generously added, severely seasoned with salt and pepper. And the uniqueness of the “bloody” mixture is given by a sprig of celery, which is usually used to stir it piquantly.
"Mojito" - the world cocktail
He is considered one of the pioneers in the art of mixing drinks. There is no need to talk much about the features of the good old “Mojito” - it’s better to experience them for yourself.
To prepare this drink, as a rule, mix Bacardi rum with soda, add lime slices and mint sprigs. All this with a drop of sugar syrup and pure ice cubes is a refreshing mix that cools and invigorates the body and spirit.
(Pina Colada) - decoration of a sunny and noisy summer
Imagine a tropical landscape with tall palm trees, hammocks and a bar on a sandy beach. After all, it was in these parts that Pina Colada was born, with a name that is incomprehensible without proper translation. A lot of alcoholic cocktails have been invented in hot countries, but this particular drink has gained the greatest popularity.
These two words, translated from Spanish as “strained pineapple,” although simple, sound very attractive to foreigners. The tropical ingredients of Pina Colada harmoniously complement each other: it consists of fresh pineapple juice, white rum and syrup.
An original name - and 50% success of the cocktail is guaranteed!
Now bars and clubs with their varied bar menu cannot but delight, and this is probably one of the reasons for their popularity, which is growing from year to year. At the same time, they are actively practicing new flavor combinations and enthusiastically developing fresh drink designs. The income from cocktails is always decent and, therefore, business in this area is progressing well. Mixing drinks is also incredibly interesting, because you can enjoy both the process of preparing them and the fruits of the work.
In order to attract more visitors to your establishment, many different tricks are used. For example, to make people more actively buy certain alcoholic cocktails, the names in clubs are written on the walls or interior details (so that they attract attention). At the same time, promotions are being held for drinks, and alternative bright names are being invented for them. Other restaurant (club) owners benefit from bar variety, periodically updating the menu.
So, there are a lot of people who want to try:
- "Reanimator" made from brandy and sweet vermouth.
- "Maiden's Prayer", which, in addition to the basic gin, syrup, fresh lemon and orange juice and Cointreau, contains egg white.
- “Slippery Nipple” is a hellish combination of layers of grenadine, sambuca and Irish Cream liqueur.
- “Cranial hemorrhage” - what distinguishes it from the previous one is peach Schnaps instead of sambuca.
- "Balalaika" and "Kamikaze". Their compositions are similar: the familiar vodka and Cointreau, only lemon juice is added to the first, and lime juice to the second. Mostly men order them to prove that “a real Russian doesn’t get drunk that easily.”
- The list is completed by such cool names of cocktails (alcoholic, of course) as “Annushka”, “Katenka”, “Natasha”. Each of the listed drinks is truly delicious, just to choose from. Vodka is used as a basis for their preparation. The first cocktail is purple, with Creme de Mure liqueur. The second is bright and sunny, with lime juice and a sprig of mint. “Natasha” amazes with its candy taste, which is created by a mixture of strawberry and banana liqueurs with “Cointreau”.
Continuing the theme of names
Despite the fact that most mixes from bar menus are named quite adequately, fashionable and modern, there are no exceptions. After all, funny names of alcoholic cocktails are usually remembered best. This is due to the fact that they usually have a peculiar taste and have an unpredictable effect on the body.
- I would immediately like to mention a drink called “Death After Lunch” - a la invigorating champagne for gentlemen.
- It is impossible not to highlight the brother cocktails “White Russian” and “Black Russian”, prepared from vodka with a certain coffee liqueur, only the first one also contains cream.
- “The Last Word” also surprises with its title. It is a mix of gin, green Chartreuse, lime juice and maraschino liqueur.
- "Angel's Breast" is no less fun! It turns out that this is a mixture of the already mentioned maraschino liqueur with whipped cream, served in a graceful glass.
- "Glands of the Monkey" makes you feel uneasy. But the daredevils who tried this drink usually demanded to repeat it, since the taste of gin with orange, pomegranate juice and Ricard liqueur is worth it.
- Tart Scottish scotch and the incomparable Drambuie liqueur together give birth. It is not recommended to rush into it: savor its taste as long as possible.
Your soul is asking for a cocktail, but you don’t have enough money to go to a bar? There is an exit!
After a hard and nervous week at work, do you want to get rid of the thoughts that have filled your head? Do you want to relax cheaply and cheerfully, because prices in a club or bar are steep? Alcoholic cocktails in stores will help out; their names are similar to those in restaurants, the taste, of course, may differ from the original, but they are really inexpensive. It won’t be difficult to find these in any supermarket, in the liquor department.
The choice, naturally, will not be like in a bar, but it’s not a problem to find “Pina Colada”, “Whiskey and Cola”, “Bellini”, “Daiquiri”, something similar to “Screwdriver”, “White Russian” and “Martini”.
When the desired mix has been purchased and is already in the refrigerator, all that remains is to pour it into a glass to make it look aesthetically pleasing, and throw in a couple of ice cubes with a slice of some fruit and a sprig of mint. But since these alcoholic cocktails are sold in bottles (some of them even have aristocratic names), it is not fatal to drink them straight from there.
Guide to those starting to conquer bars
Surely everyone has heard about lists of films that everyone should watch, places that are a must-see. There are similar ones for books and legendary dishes. In this case, we will talk about something similar, but the main roles will be played by the name of the cocktails (alcoholic). The list of them is compiled for people just starting to discover the world of alcoholic drinks and mixes from them. It’s still worth having some information in order to know exactly what to order from the bartender and understand the effect of the desired drink.
Thus, beginners should take note of the following alcoholic cocktails. The names of the drinks, which, as mentioned above, received their Oscar, should be remembered first, and begin practice with them.
- "B-52" - three liqueurs: "Irish Cream", "Grand Marnier" and coffee "Kalua".
- It is advisable to try “Daiquiri” when the rum included in it, in addition to lime juice and syrup, is real Cuban.
- “Sex on the Beach” is a fiery boom of peach liqueur, vodka, raspberry liqueur, cranberry and pineapple juice.
- The traditional Tequila Sunrise, made from pomegranate juice, orange juice, tequila, soda and blackcurrant liqueur, is great when done right.
- "Mimosa". It skillfully mixes fresh orange juice with sparkling champagne. It is recommended to drink it when you have a hangover.
- Drinking the Martini in its many variations is also a top priority. For example, gin is praised, dry vermouth, orange bitters and olive brine create something in one glass.
- Even beginners are familiar with it (James Bond's favorite drink, remember?). However, not everyone can withstand its strength, because vodka, gin, and Lille Blanc vermouth, in which lemon zest languishes, are not easy to handle in one glass.
- They also remember with a smile the feelings after “Lone Island East Tea”. A mix of tequila, white rum, vodka with gin, lemon juice, cola and Cointreau will instantly turn your head, and your body will rush to the center of the dance floor.
- You can reflect on the great with the Alexander cocktail, which consists of cream, syrup, gin and white Creme de cocoa.
- For the same purpose, it is ideal to order with Cointreau liqueur, gin, lemon juice and egg white.
- "White Russian", "Black Russian" and "Screwdriver" allow you to spend the evening in a harsh way.
- "Manhattan" is added to the collection of mandatory alcoholic drinks. Bittersweet notes are felt in it due to Angostura bitters and sweet vermouth, which are diluted by bourbon.
- There is no point in ending the evening boringly and quietly when there is a Hurricane cocktail. This is where there really is a storm in a glass, brought on by dark rum, lemon juice and passion fruit syrup.
- "Hiroshima" finishes off with its madness. There is no way to drink this shooter except in one gulp. This is obvious, because it contains sambuca, absinthe, Irish Cream liqueur and bitter grenadine to create a hellish mixture.
A curtain
Not all alcoholic cocktails are mentioned in the article, and their names could go on for a long time. But why? After all, if you have a desire to taste something suggested above, then it’s easy and simple to satisfy it. Alternatively, go to a trusted club or store and leave the required amount of money there for this or that “balm for the soul.” Or you can take a risk - discover the novice bartender in you and make a cocktail yourself. For this, there is the necessary literature in a bookstore and a supermarket with a meager alcohol department. This is a wonderful hobby because it will be pleasant to experience the “results of creativity” for yourself. The main thing is not to get overwhelmed by the creative process.
If you are fed up with classic cocktails and want something unusual and even extraordinary, then we want to present you with a unique selection of recipes for preparing just such alcoholic mixes. All you need is to strictly follow the proportions and maintain the sequence of step-by-step recommendations.

Coquetier: cocktail in an eggshell
The presentation of this cocktail is very original, especially suitable for those who are not afraid of not very large volumes. Inside the shell you will find a mixture of rum, cinnamon and chocolate. In general, there are glasses that look like that same egg, and I think you’ve drunk from one of these more than once. Well, this cocktail has a special, unusual aroma, a memorable taste, but as for the volume - it’s up to you to decide whether to agree or not.
Cocktails with milk are not uncommon. But cocktails with camel milk are something special. You can try this cocktail in Abu Dhabi, and this cocktail was invented by the world’s only camel milk mixologist, Mohammed Daoud. By the way, no one else in the world has such a profession!
The recipe for this cocktail contains the most unexpected ingredients: dry ice, liquid nitrogen and jelly. Okay, jelly isn't so shocking anymore. Herbs, gin, and egg white are also added to the cocktail. This cocktail must be shaken vigorously before drinking to create a high, dense foam. After this, the cocktail is covered with a glass cover, from which it is enriched with woody notes as the spices are burned. The taste of this cocktail is not the most ordinary, but the preparation process itself is worth it!
If we translate the title literally, it would be: “Wake up! Wake up! Here is your egg and bun,” but this is not entirely true, however, it is not without humor. This name is fully justified: previously this cocktail was prepared for those who had too much to drink during the night.
In general, the cocktail itself is not that complicated: it’s something like a Bloody Mary, to which hot sauce and stout are added. But such a cocktail must also be served with pickled vegetables, quail eggs, bacon and a cheese sandwich. This is not just a collection of random products. All this (always with a cocktail) copes well with a hangover. Don't believe me? Try it!
There are also many unusual and even disgusting cocktails, such as the one served with a human finger. But if you are not one of those who are used to risking their stomach, then you can always buy a good old bottle of wine or vodka at the WineStreet store and remain confident in your health.
